Making Disciples In Everyday Life

Life is full of moments that shape us, but our greatest calling as Christians is to make disciples as we go through the everyday rhythms of life. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives us the responsibility to make disciples. This command is not limited to pastors or missionaries; it’s for every believer, no matter where we are or what we do.

Embracing Our Everyday Mission

Jesus' authority gives us the confidence to step out in faith, and His presence assures us that we are never alone in our journey. This Great Commission is a daily mission, urging us to live out our faith in all aspects of our lives. Whether we're at home, work, or in our communities, we are called to be disciples who make disciples.

Everyday Moments as Opportunities

Our everyday lives are filled with opportunities to share Christ’s love and teachings. Simple actions, like offering a listening ear to a neighbor, showing kindness to a coworker, or teaching our children about God’s love, can have a profound impact. Each interaction is an opportunity to show the love of God through Jesus Christ.
For example, while showing kindness toward people that are hard to love, we can model compassion. While working diligently and honestly, we can show integrity. These actions, though they may seem small, can lead others to inquire about our faith and open doors for deeper conversations about Jesus.

Practical Steps for Making Disciples

  1. Intentional Relationships: Building meaningful relationships is key. Spend time with others, listen to their stories, and look for opportunities to share your faith naturally.
  2. Living Out Your Faith: Let your actions speak about your faith. Be honest, kind, and compassionate in everything you do. People notice when we live differently because of Christ.
  3. Sharing Your Story: Don’t underestimate the power of your testimony. Share how God has worked in your life. Personal stories can be very impactful.
  4. Serving Others: Actively seek ways to serve in your community. Whether it's helping a neighbor, volunteering at a local event, or supporting someone in need, service is a powerful demonstration of God’s love.

Encouragement from Scripture

The Bible provides ample encouragement for our mission. Scriptures like Acts 1:8 remind us that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be His witnesses. Similarly, 2 Timothy 4:2 urges us to be ready to share the word at all times.
Remember the encouraging words of Jesus in Matthew 28:18 & 20, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me…Behold I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Making disciples is not a task reserved for special occasions or significant life changes; it is a daily responsibility. As we go through the everyday rhythms of life, we are called to reflect Christ’s love and teachings. By embracing this calling with trust in Jesus’ authority and presence, we can confidently and purposefully share our faith with those around us.
Remember, each day is an opportunity to make disciples. Let’s be intentional in our actions, words, and relationships, fulfilling the Great Commission in all that we do. Whether in our homes, workplaces, or communities, let's help others follow Jesus as we go through life.
